Spring/summer fashion 2022: What to wear
Brighter days are just around the corner so it’s time to have a think about trends to embrace this spring and summer.
Fashion has undergone a wholesale shift in the last couple of years and Spring/ summer fashion 2022 channels the most popular changes as they move mainstream.
So, if you’re looking to feel good this spring and summer head to Marriotts Walk to seek out the latest fashions that channel the season’s hottest trends.
Spring/summer fashion 2022: What to wear
Throwback fashion is very much focused on the 90s. Known as Y2K this trend harnesses major styles from the decade that led up to Y2K. This is certainly a trend that you can have lots of fun with and, thankfully, one where there is plenty of scope to mix in timeless staple pieces that will give you years of service regardless of seasonal fashions.
Here are the ones to watch:
Plentiful platform/chunky soles
Chunky boots have been in evidence all winter and will continue to provide plenty of service throughout the British spring no doubt, but as well as a trusty pair of biker boots you might want something for the warmer weather. Chunky soles and platforms have switched over to sandals and platforms, allowing you to continue to harness the trend (and add a bit of height) even when wearing flats.
Foam-based sandals, mules, going out shoes, and even trainers are all embracing the bold sole.
Cool cut-outs
If there is a trend that shouts 90s it’s got to be the cut-out (well it might be skirts over trousers but we don’t seem to be there yet). Lycra-styled tops and dresses with flesh-baring cut-outs on shoulders, decolletage, hips and stomachs are once more a thing. This can be daring or subtle, all depending on your personal style.
Details: Fringing, feathers and beads
Fashion is really making a statement this year and, along with the bold colours and oversize cuts, details are making sure every outfit pops. Tops embellished with beads, jackets laid over with fringing, and dresses covered in feathers are some of the styles you can expect to see make their way onto the High Street. An easy trend to channel, you can tap into this by pairing a beaded top with jeans or adding a fringed bag to an outfit.
Whether a hangover from stay-at-home comfort dressing or a reaction to years of wearing skinny jeans, oversized fashion remains, well, big! Oversized shirts, baggy jeans, and oversized tailored suits are definitely going to be a popular choice among shoppers. Big doesn’t have to mean shapeless though and tailored suits emphasise waists and shoulders for a sharp, on-trend look.
Nice-to-have neutrals
Having been evident in winter wardrobes, light neutrals are always better suited to the fairer weather and will be a welcome addition on the summer scene. Suits in cream and camel will be hot this year, while you may choose to just go for a cream jacket, or light trousers.
Get-go green
Yes, that’s right, green will be having a moment this spring. Along with other neon brights, green is tipped as the colour to choose for everything from jumpers to sunglasses.
Micro skirts
Short skirts never really seem to go out of fashion and hemlines have gone upwards in the last year. Micro skirts are a definite statement piece for dressing up for a night out.
Low waists
You might have only just got used to high-waisted jeans, but waistlines are already dropping. Low slung waistlines will be in evidence on jeans, skirts and trousers.
With a really eclectic take on trends, spring/summer fashion for 2022 has something for everyone, so hit the shops to seek out a new outfit that is just right for you.
